Building 945 (2007, US, mixed media) ← Click the image for a documentation. I took a pinhole image on 16mm filmstrips through the window of Project Space at the Headlands Center for the Arts, toward the next building. I picked up woods that had been used for buildings in the Marin Headlands area and used them for the exterior of the light box. I intend to contact-print the filmstrips in order to make a movie, then project it on the back of the light box. |

Four Views from Studio 6, Building 945 (2007, US, films on plexiglass) A series of filmstrips are on plexiglass, attached onto the window, where images were shot through. As the window is divided in four by its frames, I shot four images through each window frame, trying to show, not only four different view points but also four different time in a day. Clockwise from the left bottom image, I shot at 7:30 am, 10:30 am, 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm, and each for 60 minutes exposure. |

Passing Fog (2006, US, mixed media) ← Click the image for a documentation. Taking a picture is a process of making a still from time. A movie camera takes a series of stills, and a projector shows them in duration. I carefully placed 16mm filmstrips in a 3-foot tall pinhole camera and exposed them for 18 minutes from a window of my studio at the Headlands Center for the Arts, minutes away from San Francisco. It was windy and fog was hovering over the hills. After processing the films, I spliced them and contact-printed to make a movie. Then, I unspliced the original films and displayed them to make a still, a single 33" x 40" picture made by 58 filmstrips. |

A Pinhole Behind Fences (2005, US, mixed media) ← Click the image for a documentation. Six images by filmstrips show sites in North Beach, San Francisco, shot through a pinhole camera. I was interested in shooting similar patterns all over the images, as they would produce apparent motion through a movie projector. |
